The Opportunist Traveler

This was to be the first of many trips to Phuket in 2014. Neither Rich
or I had been to Phuket before moving to Singapore so we decided to go for his birthday in March. As soon as we had booked our trip we
then got invited by our friends to go on another holiday to Phuket
with them. We ended up doing both! Luckily they were very different trips and we stayed in opposite ends of the island, allowing us to enjoy a variation of beaches and activities.

Island hopping in Phuket

August 05, 2015

This was to be the first of many trips to Phuket in 2014. Neither Rich
or I had been to Phuket before moving to Singapore so we decided to go for his birthday in March. As soon as we had booked our trip we
then got invited by our friends to go on another holiday to Phuket
with them. We ended up doing both! Luckily they were very different trips and we stayed in opposite ends of the island, allowing us to enjoy a variation of beaches and activities.
The first weekend we spent with our friends in a villa at Kata Beach.
We took the late Friday evening flight from Singapore and arrived in

Phuket airport around 11pm. Kata Beach was located in the south of
the island and it took us around an hour to drive to our villa. The villa
was huge and perched up on the hill overlooking the beach. The next
day we made our way down to the beach for sunbathing, swimming
and Frisbee. The waves were surprisingly strong and we could body surf. The remainder of the weekend was spent in the villa relaxing by the pool, eating delicious (if not a little too spicy) Thai food and
playing games.
The following weekend Rich and I made our way back to Phuket to
celebrate his birthday. This time we stayed at the Dewa Hotel on Nai
Yang beach which was only a short drive from Phuket airport. We
were given a villa with our own plunge pool. The beach wasn't as nice

as Kata beach but there were a number of local restaurants and sun
loungers to lie on.
On the Saturday we joined a tour boat and visited the Phi Phi Islands
- Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Le. Our boat stopped at a number of
beaches and coves for snorkelling. We also stopped at the beach where the movie "The Beach" was filmed which was very touristy and
crowed but fun all the same. The remainder of the weekend was spent
relaxing at our hotel before we got back on the plane to Singapore.
