Slept in this morning so it was 10:30 before we were on the road again. From Fleet we headed to Stonehenge and had a really good time looking around this amazing world heritage site. The girls both thought it was very “cool” and were really interested in its origins and the theories behind why it was built. It was another fine day but was bitterly cold, it felt much colder walking around Stonehenge than it felt in London and I was starting to think we needed to get the thermals out again – we haven’t needed them since we left Norway! We had a very nice lunch in the café at Stonehenge, good to have a change from the daily sandwiches and while their sandwiches looked really nice, we all went for hot food instead!
From Stonehenge we drove through the rolling, green English countryside to Salisbury, arriving just after 2:30pm. Getting close to Salisbury we could see the spire of the cathedral rising high above the town long before we actually got there. We wound our way through town and found a car park near the cathedral. We had a good look through Salisbury Cathedral and went into the annexe which houses one of the original copies of the Magna Carta. It made for some very interesting reading all about the Magna Carta and the impact it has had on society today. Salisbury Cathedral is amazing and seeing it up close was awesome. After the cathedral we had a walk through the old part of town and seeing as we were feeling very cold we headed into a pub for what seems to be our afternoon ritual of drink and hot chips!! Left the pub about 5:30pm and decided to make tracks for our Air BnB. Found our accommodation without any trouble and soon settled in. Decided on fish and chips for tea and then spent the evening catching up on the diary and photos.
