My diary

No breakfast included in this hotel room so after we were all showered we checked out and headed into Crawley for breakfast. We realised as we were leaving the hotel that even in the daylight we would not have been able to find it without directions from reception as the sign posting is completely non-existent until you get to the entrance! The café we had planned to go to for breakfast was closed so we ended up in the café of a huge Morrisons supermarket and it was actually very nice as well as being very reasonably priced.

After breakfast, we decided to go back to London via Guildford and Worplesdon so that we could show the girls the area where Ian spent his time staying with Roger (who was his first cousin once removed) and his wife Chris when he were first in England. The traffic going into Guildford was very congested – they obviously take their post Christmas sales shopping very seriously in this area as not only were the roads congested but the High Street and shops were very busy as well. Had a walk along the High Street and then headed on to Worplesdon. We stopped at St Mary’s Church where Roger used to be the rector and had a walk around the church grounds as well as looking at the rectory. We were going to go into the pub next door – The White Lyon, where Ian used to work – for a drink and a snack, but it was closed. We talked about going somewhere else for a drink instead but decided that seeing how long it took us to get out of London we should keep moving as we needed to meet someone at our Air BnB at 4pm and it was now 2:15pm. Of course we had a very smooth run into London and were at our Air BnB by 3pm.

We walked to the local pub down the road and had a drink and a snack there. We had only just placed our order when we had a call from the company who runs the Air BnB to say we could check in early if we wanted as there was someone there now to meet us. I had originally asked for a 3pm check in and was told it would be an extra £30 for this so we weren’t about to rush our drinks to meet them there early just because it now suited them!! Told them we would be half an hour so we enjoyed our drinks and then headed off. The apartment is lovely. Looks a bit doubtful from the outside as it is a 70s style block of flats but the apartment is very modern and tastefully decorated. The girls have a room each which is nice for them to have some space at this point in the holiday.

Ian took the car back to the car rental and the girls and I went shopping for groceries and then settled into the apartment. We decided we were ready for a quiet night in after the last couple of very enjoyable, but full on with people, days so bought some ravioli and salad from the supermarket for tea. Put some washing on and had a very relaxing evening after dinner reading, watching TV and catching up on the diary. Tomorrow will be the hop on/hop off bus around London.
