My diary

It was a day of airports, transfers and long plane rides. We had our first glimpse of snow at Oslo airport and had a growing sense of excitement that we were finally getting close to our final destination. We even had time for a glass of wine and a beer at Oslo – our first for the holiday - but luckily there was only time for one given the Norwegian prices!!
23hours after leaving Perth we made it to our final destination – Bergen. Checked into our hotel, we then ventured out into the cold afternoon air to have a walk around town and find somewhere for dinner. It felt really strange to be walking around in semi darkness at 4pm and by 5pm it looked more like 10pm – and felt like it as well after a night spent trying to sleep on planes. We had a wander through the Christmas markets in town – it felt very Christmassy as we looked at lots of craft and food produce while listening to Carols under Christmas themed lights. We ended up in a Mexican café for tea as we didn’t quite have the brain power to think about where to go! After dinner we walked down to the waterfront but didn’t hang around there for long as the wind was picking up and it was starting to feel really cold despite our many layers of clothing, big jackets, scarves and beanies.
We headed back to our hotel about 7:30pm and met Mark Harbun in the hotel lobby just before 8pm. Managed to stay awake long enough to have a drink and a chat with him but by 8:30 we couldn’t stay awake any longer and headed to bed
