Tripping 2019

Wally award contenders: me for losing passport, K&T for leaving their Swedish krona behind = I win! Fingers crossed Jane will find passport when returns to Rendsburg house tonight and can courier it to Copenhagen within 41 hours = FAIL. Replacement now on the way = London Embassy my hero’s.

Stood for first leg of two x two hour train journeys, way too close to the armpits of our fellow travellers. Pre-booking seats meant diddly squat, we had no chance of squeezing through to claim them. Good attempt by German rail to crush four carriages down to two, we lucked up as they refused to let more passengers on at next two stops. Nice comfy seats for second leg but two cranky kids who were clearly sick of travelling, although they had the bonus of being able to throw tantrums about it and were well practiced in the art.
Photos this page: Living area of B&B with my pull out bed that Tim is sitting on, and K&T’s snug bedroom.

After losing half a day sorting out the passport we trained to the furtherest point we wanted to go to and walked, canal boated and waaaaalked back through the city - around 7k in all. So worth the effort, we’ve all fallen in love with Copenhagen, so much to see and do, spic and span to the point you can hire free kayaks so long as you collect rubbish out of the harbour as you go. Loads of space, a total lack of beggars, hawkers, louts or anything else to mess with our wonderful afternoon. BOTTOM RIGHT: oldest house in Copenhagen, built 1681.

Tim keeping his eyes on the path ahead at the Kastellet (Citadel), Copenhagen - bayonets fixed for these lads! Built 1664 this fortress was in use through to the 1830s. Still housing military activities, it is mainly used as a public park now.

St Alban’s Church.

Amager Bakke above, a combined heat and power waste to energy plant that burns 400,000 tons of waste per year and was intended to double as a 10,000sq metre ski slope, a hiking trail and 85m high climbing wall as well. However the outdoor activity areas yet to open to the public due to health fears despite the chimney system apparently preventing anything noxious being emitted.

Who gives way? We did and quickly!!!!!

< The bonus of the day the last one - amazing busker covering everything from Leonard Cohen to the Bee Gees.
