Tripping 2019
Our first wet day and with a few hours to fill in ahead of the wedding, we chanced our luck with Cynthia (GPS) to find Schloss Glücksburg (Castle Glücksburg in our lingo) and for Tim to get some European driving practice in. Cynthia turned out to be harder to manage then the driving, getting into a huff at one stage, refusing to talk or keep up with our location on the map - behaving much better after spanking her with the off/on button.
Built 1582-1587, now a museum owned by a foundation, it was the seat of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and was also used by the Danish kings. The site dates back to the 13th century when it was a Cistercian monastery, some of the stones from that were used in the foundations for the current Castle that was looted by British soldiers 23 May 1945. Taking an hour each way, we only had time for a speed walk around the grounds, nicely timed between rain showers then off home to get ready for the wedding.
