Laters London - MC and JD's adventure back to NZ

It was a somewhat slow start to the day today and Alberto and Sarah dropped us back at the train station in Udine around midday. We refuelled on the train with some great vending machine finds salami and rosemary flavoured bread things. Great hangover cure.

Back in Venice we wandered around the Jewish quarter enjoying the warmer temperature again and finding lots of street art around us as we went. This is a pretty cool area, where the Jews were told to go live in the 1560’s. They were also locked in every night by Christian guards, who the Jewish council had to hire and pay themselves!

After some more wandering and shopping we found a little tavern suggested by the Italian girls in our room in Torre del Colle for a spritz on the waters edge and watched the world go by in boats and gondolas of all shapes and sizes. The drivers are so skilled here!

Back in St Mark’s square we found the line for the campanile was rather short so decided to head up the tower. After a long couple of days it was to our

Back in St Mark’s square we found the line for the campanile was rather short so decided to head up the tower. After a long couple of days it was to our

great surprise that there were no stairs but in fact a lift to take us up to see a fantastic view of Venice and the mountains as the sun was setting.

Time for dinner and we decided that our last meal in Italy really should include pasta and a tiramisu for Jo so we found a little restaurant, only 5 tables, by a canal where we had a fantastic meal. Croms dessert was lemon gelato served in a frozen lemon! Very impressive.

We managed to make it back to the train station before the last train. Venice is so quiet and peaceful at night in comparison and the full moon made for some lovely views over the water on our way back. We will be very sad to say goodbye to Italy tomorrow.
