Laters London - MC and JD's adventure back to NZ

The day has finally arrived, it’s our last day of the trip. We fly back to NZ later tonight. Massive sad face.

We do however have one last day in LA! After some tactical packing we got on the LA metro for the last time, yay, and headed to Little Tokyo to drop our bags in storage. From here we walked around the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which was designed by Frank Gehry who did the Guggenheim buildings, with his distinctive style, the Broad, an art museum which houses a private collection, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. They were all impressive buildings. We also found the Angels Flight, which is a funicular less than 100 metres long and takes about 10 seconds. Americans really are lazy! Or maybe it’s just the tourists.

It is also stinking hot today and being surrounded by concrete with no breeze is not helping! At the bottom of the Angels Flight is Grand Central Market, which is a massive food hall with a huge range of different cuisines. After walking round we both decided on Mexican and some craft beers, it did not disappoint and was a great escape from the heat!

We left the market and as we were playing tourist were approached and asked about interviewing as a couple for Legami Jewelry. This was pretty funny as we were filmed talking about our close relationship and how we make it work. Was a bit of a laugh!

To fill in the last couple of hours we decided to wander around the Arts District. There used to a ban on wall murals in the city of Los Angeles. There was however a community of artists who banded together to create street art in an old warehouse district. This was tolerated and the community eventually successfully petitioned to get the ban overturned in 2013. The arts area has now expanded so much that it won the right to become an official district, the Arts District.

Walking to the Arts District, took us through the Toy District! An interesting part of town and as the shops started giving way to warehouses, the locals became pretty interesting. There was even a guy walking around with a baseball bat.....

We however did make it to where we found a lot of cool art, ranging from small pieces to completely painted buildings. It was really cool. Once we had again had enough of the heat, we headed back to Little Tokyo for a rest, to grab our bags and head to find the airport bus, which we just made!

The trip to LAX took twice as long as it should, due to the ever present traffic in this city, I don’t know how people deal with it. It is a massive airport, but we got through easily enough and had a few hours to fill in. Well spent doing some last minute shopping and having a couple of beers at a sports bar watching American Football to cap off an amazing two and a half months. Hard to believe we only have two plane trips and we will be back in Dunedin!
