John and Nancy's Excellent Adventure

Today was a very busy (read exhausting) day, starting with a cruise on Yellowstone Lake, the largest body of water in Yellowstone National Park. One of the Park Rangers provided narration and he was fascinating as well as entertaining. We learned all kinds of history and geology.
On the way to our next destination we got up close and personal with several bison on the road. We finally arrived at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone which is 20 miles long. The Yellowstone River cuts a colorful swath 1000 feet deep and 3/4 mile wide through the the landscape. The river plunges over the 109 foot Upper Falls before thundering down the 308 foot Lower Falls. We hiked along the south rim of the canyon to get a good view of the falls. John and I missed signals and he wound up hiking twice as far as I did looking for me, while I sat on a rock wondering where he was. Then we continued to the North Rim and walked to several more viewpoints. It was all spectacular, reminiscent of the Grand Canyon, but very different colors.
The weather prediction for tomorrow is snow showers. Hopefully, they won't be much because we have a 6:15 wildlife viewing tour arranged- am that is!
