Liberia - The Inaugral Trip

I asked Hawa when they decided to move to Bushrod Island since it is about an hour from Covenant House. It was to plant a church in 2010. Bushrod Island is a much rougher place. They are living in a challenging situation with drugs and extreme poverty around them. I had wondered about this on my first visit. But they are so well known and loved.
The revival is of course in the church, in their house. King David (that seems funny), who I met earlier (and rode in his keke or tut tue) has a separate church. His congregation has recently lost the use of their building, so the two churches combined for the revival. So many children! By the time it is my turn, the small chapel is stuffed to the brim, from the front of the “altar” to the back door with barely a path to the front of the room.
This time I spoke about being afraid. God’s Word is very clear about not being afraid. David worships in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation – who shall I fear?” References in Genesis 26:24 and Hebrews 13:6 continue you to

Bushrod Island

encourage us. God is our helper, of what or whom would we be afraid? He made you and He only makes good things. I shared about leaving for Liberia, certain of my path but afraid and how God spoke to me, calmed my fears, and led me on.
Dejoy announced I would be available afterward for sharing, answering questions, etc. Oh my goodness. It was wild! These kids are rougher. At one point, Bishop had to rescue me, as the kids continued to push on me, shoving one another and yelling. I made it to the front porch to sit and again they closed in. But some of them were brave, asking what state I live in? When did you dedicate your life to Christ?
Hawa had planned something very special for me for dinner. She has lived in Sierra Leone and Senegal at different times. Her sister had prepared a typical Senagalese meal – couscous and whole fish with a very spicy sauce (with a hint of mint). It was delicious but I have no skill at eating fish off the bone, or a lot of desire for that matter!! When we got in the truck to leave, the back was full of little kids who wanted to see where I live. Dejoy told them to get out but when we arrived at my guesthouse, the back popped open and there were like 5 kids back there!
