We awoke early to get to the Acropolis before the crowds. We were the first ones in the gate! We took pictures at the Parthenon first. Aparently there was a huge statue of Athena inside dressed in a gold gown. She held a spear & shield with one arm and Nike in her other hand. We saw the Erechtheum with the porch of 6 beautiful maidens (Caryatids). On the other side there was a porch with a huge crack that supposedly occured during the fight between Poseidon and Athena over who would rule Athens. The Propylaea is the impressive entry that winds up stairs to the plateau.
