Go to the boat coop at Marina Grande. Pick a nice looking boat. The boatmen are all good and usually speak English. You want to rent a gozzo, the traditional boat. But, you want a big one with: a wheel in the center, not a tiller in the stern; fully covered in terry cloth, mats and cushions; a swimming platform, not a ladder over the side; fresh water shower spray; sun shade; drinking water and maybe wine. Negotiate with the boatman and agree on a price
