Visiting Italy

what to eat in venice

Ca D'Oro alla Vedova
is living proof that it's possible to find delicious food for just a couple of euros. My favourite baraco in Venice, this is the perfect place to do as the locals do and nibble on “cicchetti” (small plates or snacks like tapas), accompanied by an “ombra” (a glass of local wine). Situated in Strada Nova, and just a stone’s throw away from Ca’ d’Oro Palace, this romantic bacaro is also famous for its delicious seafood menu.

Seafood fans shouldn't miss their “spaghetti alle vongole” (spaghetti with clams) and “spaghetti alla busara” (lobster pasta).
Booking in advance is highly recommended.
According to the locals, their “polpette” (deep-fried meatballs) are the best in town.
The osteria is closed on Thursdays

Pasticceria Tonolo
If you're wandering in the Dorsoduro district and happen to crave something sweet, this pastry shop has just what you need. As one of the most ancient patisseries in town, and pastries costing just one euro, Tonolo is popular with Venetians and tourists alike. Among my favourites are the profiteroles with chantilly cream (called “bignè” in Italian), fluffy meringues and sacher torte.
