How to validate your ticket
At every ACTV stop, you'll see a white electronic ticket reader near the entrance to the floating boat platform. Hold your ticket or pass up to the ticket reader, and listen for the beep or wait for the green light to flash.

Green iMob ticket reader(Note: At larger ACTV stations, you may also see green ticket readers. These are "read-only" devices that let you check how many trips are left on your ticket. They won't deduct a fare or validate your ticket for your current trip.)

If you don't have a ticket and there's no booth or machine at the ACTV stop, request a ticket from the marinaio (sailor) immediately after boarding the water bus to avoid a large fine.

. For convenience, "vaporetto" is often used as a generic synonym for "water bus," but technically there are three types of boat: the "vaporetto," a flat-decked boat used on routes such as No. 1 (Grand Canal) and No. 2; the "motoscafo" (used for routes that go into the Lagoon; see photo at top of page); and the "motonave" (a larger vessel, sometimes with two decks, that is used for commuter service to locations such as the Lido, Punta Sabioni, and Treporti).

Traghetto
Traghetti operate during daylight hours only, often with a break for lunch. There are no official timetables: The boats travel back and forth almost continuously, taking two or three minutes to cross the Grand Canal.
Charge 2 euro per ride. keep the change ready .
As you're walking around Venice, look for yellow or white "Traghetto" signs, or find traghetto routes on your map
