Leaving French Polynesia a pod of dolphins join us as we make our way thru the pass between the large surf and surfers waiting to catch the perfect wave. We soon have 12 knot winds with comfortable seas and full sails at a broad reach. Within the first 24 hours the swells and waves gradually grow and the winds gradually shift to 20 knots at a close reach – heading directly into the wind and waves.
Rather than being gently rocked to sleep down in our berth it seems more like being on a ride at a 7 Flags amusement park: “Rest your weary bones and take a break on the “Sleepy Sea Monster!” Enter your private 1 person or family chamber complete with a soft foam mattress and pillows for a restful escape. Once you make yourself comfortable, the door closes, the lights go out and gentle rocking begins. Soon the rocking becomes stronger and you are jostled every-which-way, you hear loud splashing and feel the strong banging

Leaving French Polynesia a pod of dolphins join us as we make our way thru the pass between the large surf and surfers waiting to catch the perfect wave. Soon the rocking becomes stronger and you are jostled every-which-way, you hear loud splashing and feel the strong banging
of waves all around and under you, randomly jolting you about. It feels like you are trying to sleep on a frick’n bucking bronco. It eventually tires you out and you find yourself waking up – you actually did get some sleep!
What a difference a day at sea makes. During our short 4-day sail change is constant. Clouds. Drizzles. Sun. Stars. Rainbows. Wind. No wind. No “Fish On!” No birds (well, hardly any). No flying fish. Mostly the wind has shifted to being directly on our nose so we motor sail into the wind, sometimes bucking the waves and other times in smooth seas. More sea hypnosis - wish you could see the movement! And a stunning sunrise as we arrive to the Cook Islands.
