We have found out that a Noreastern was coming to Cape Cod today and expected to be at its worst by 11:30 am. So.. we got up early and decided to do a bit of an island tour and get back home by mid morning.
We headed out on the lower highway 28 to the east and as far up as Orleans. We meandered through small little towns along the way and found that Chatham was the most quaint of them all. We will have to come back tomorrow once the storm has passed through. When we got to Orleans we made our way back to Hyannis via the 28A

Day 2 - Cape Cod
We have found out that a Noreastern was coming to Cape Cod today and expected to be at its worst by 11:30 am. So.. we got up early and decided to do a bit of an island tour and get back home by mid morning.
We headed out on the lower highway 28 to the east and as far up as Orleans. We meandered through small little towns along the way and found that Chatham was the most quaint of them all. We will have to come back tomorrow once the storm has passed through. When we got to Orleans we made our way back to Hyannis via the 28A
highway.
You get a chance to see the marinas, bays and quaint Cape Cod dwellings all along the way. We continued on until 12 pm and noticed that the winds and rain were picking up significantly. So we headed back to our place in Hyannis for the remainder of the day.
We got back by 2 pm and just in time.
The town of Barnstable on Cape Cod is divided into 7 villages, the largest of which is Hyannis. Hyannis is the gateway to the area and, if arriving by plane, train, bus or boat, it is likely your first stop in town.
The town is best known as the presidential getaway for the Kennedy clan who spent any available downtime at the family compound in Hyannis Port. But you don't need political family ties to appreciate what drew this iconic American family to the region. The town of
Barnstable, and Hyannis in particular, is beloved by travelers for its laid-back atmosphere and friendly vibe. And then there are the beaches.
In Hyannis, Kalmus Beach is a popular spot for windsurfers with a constant breeze and good waves coming in from Nantucket Sound. The large beach is divided into 2 sections to safely keep swimmers and windsurfers out of each other's way. Keyes Beach is a family-friendly spot with soft, clean sand. Veterans Beach is another convenient family beach and also the home of historical shrines honoring John F. Kennedy and the Korean War Memorial. In West Barnstable, Sandy Neck Beach is the longest in the area with 6 miles of pebble sands including off-road vehicle trails.
This time of year Hyannis is much quieter and most of the people in town are those who reside here year-round or a few that are still coming for the occasional weekend. A great place to relax and kick up for a couple of days.
