Canada Road Trip

Calgary to Regina Travel Distance: 765 km

It is hard to believe that this day has come. Rick and I started planning this road trip 5 years ago when I first started planning for my DSLP (leave from work). Rick has always wanted to drive across Canada and see it in it's entirety. So our cross adventures in Canada started in July when we headed to the Westcoast for a visit, taking a picture at "Mile 0". We look forward to reaching the end of the TransCanada Trail in St. John's NFLD and taking our 7,821 km photo.

The Trans-Canada Highway between Victoria (BC) and St. John's (NF) is the world's longest national highway with a length of 7,821 km (4,860 mi.) The midpoint of the highway is at Batchwana Bay, about 65 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Not only have we been getting the car and our bags ready since returning from San Francisco and Phoenix, but we have also been getting the yard and the house ready for us being away until

the first week of November. We will likely be encountering rain, sun, winds, warm and cold weather over the next 7-8 weeks time; so packing can be a little tricky. We have all of our accommodations booked along the way in a variety of places: AirBnB, Home Away, Motels, Hotels and visiting with friends and family members.

Today we are traveling as far as Regina for a visit with Dawn and Dwayne, Violet and Ron for the night. We got up at the crack of dawn; bags are pack, Roxy is loaded into her crate and our Toyota Corolla is packed like the Griswalds going on "Vacation".

Our road trip was pretty easy on our first day... set the car on cruise control and you could pretty much close your eyes and the car wouldn't veer off the road because it was so straight. We got into Regina by 2 pm and got settled into our AirBnB. It is a cute little place

above a catering business. It is a 50's styled building where the business is on the mainfloor and the owners rent the 2 bedroom apartment above. It was a great space for the night.

Once we got settled we headed out to walk Roxy and tour around the Parliament Grounds. They really are quite spectacular. The flowers are still in bloom and the building is an impressive sandstone building that overlooks the local man-made lake. A pretty nice place to walk around.

The Saskatchewan Legislative Building was built between 1908 and 1912 in the Beaux Arts style to a design by Edward and William Sutherland Maxwell of Montreal. The legislative building and its grounds were designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2005.

For dinner we headed over to Earl's to meet the gang. Time just flew

by.. next thing you know it is 8:30. It has been a while since we saw everyone from Regina. What a wonderful evening!

Tomorrow it is up early and on the road again. We are travelling to Dryden tomorrow.
