Today is a quick trip of 272 km from Sainte Flavie to Bathurst.
We had a wonderful run down the beach with Roxy first thing in the morning. She really loves the beach!
As you wander down the beach there a number of dwellings just off the water. Some seem more like cottages and some more full time residences, just judging the gardens and extensive yards
surrounding the home. Everything from small bungalows to larger 2 story homes. I think it would be a great place in the summer months and the shoulder seasons. Judging by the winds last night I think that it can get really cold here in the winter months, just add snow and freezing winds. Brrr.
We are staying at the Quality Inn and Suites here in Bathurst. There weren't very many options in the area and distance wise it was the best choice for how far we hope to go each day. We want to make sure that we have the time to explore the areas that we drive through and enough time to see the towns we are staying in before we leave the next day. For one night sometimes it is easiest to stay at a basic motel. This one will do for just one night. Very clean and comfortable beds. What more can you ask for.
When we got in to Bathurst we visited the tourist information centre to get some information on New Brunswick and Bathurst. The lady was really helpful in providing helpful hints about the area and recommendations for the Bay of Fundy. She also helped up pick out a local restaurant for an early dinner.
We headed to the Cast & Crew Brewhouse. We both had the seafood chowder. It had shrimp, scallops, mussels, lobster, crab and potatoes in a light wine/cream base. The abundance of seafood was amazing. We loved every minute of it.
Tomorrow we head to Shediac Bridge to do some exploring in the area for 2 days. I look forward to visiting the lobster capital!
Being that we are still in French country - Acadia New Brunswick, I thought it would be fitting to put in the recipe for Taste de Sucre (Sugar Pie).
Sugar Pie - Tarte de Sucre (makes 2 pies)
INGREDIENTS
2 cups sugar
4 Tablespoons molasses
1 cup cream
2 eggs
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons flour
2 pie shells, uncooked
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix sugar and molasses together. Mix in milk, then beat in eggs, melted butter and flour.
Divide between two uncooked pie crusts that have been dusted with flour.
Place the pies on cookie sheets in case they bubble over (although they shouldn’t unless you put all the filling in one crust.) Bake at 400F for about half an hour.
Let cool completely before eating.
Dusting the pie crusts, top and bottom, will keep them from totally disintegrating into the pie. It’s completely optional, though.
