My diary

It was a very cold but fine day today, blue sky and sunshine but only 2 degrees as we set off for Bristol at 9:30am. We decided we would spend the day having a wander around Bristol and Brianna wanted to find something for Ciaran for his Christmas present. We made good time along the M4 and got to Bristol soon after 10:30am. It took us a bit longer to find a car park – they were either full or too low for us to fit into! However, after driving through town we found one in the West End – not too far for us to walk back to the shopping area. On our way we stopped for morning tea in a nice little café then along the River Avon and through Castle Park. We stopped to look at Temple Church – the ruins of a 12th century church – and then continued to the shopping mall. We found a present for Ciaran and bought another bag to use as checked luggage for the trip home as our suitcases are getting very full but we are still well below our weight limit. We went back down to the river for a late lunch in a burger bar – delicious burgers for Ian and the girls and a very nice vege salad for me. After lunch, we walked back to the car passed the lovely Bristol cathedral, city hall and very impressive university buildings.
We left Bristol about 3:30pm and decided that on our way back to Calne we would stop off at Castle Comb as our friend Paul Holdom had recommended we stop off there if we were in the area – he used to farm nearby and suggested we stop at the White Hart for a pint – so of course we did!! It was a very pretty town and the pub was classic old English pub and very pleasant for a drink. Then it was time to return to Calne, with our usual stop at Sainsbury’s on the way home for dinner supplies. Ian is cooking tonight – chicken Fajitas, yum!! Another quiet night in after a busy but enjoyable day out and about.
