I got up at 7:30am and decided to go for a run in nearby Wandsworth Park which is on the banks of the Thames. It was a cold but fine morning, a couple of dog walkers in the park but very quiet. Back home for breakfast and shower and then we were all ready to leave by 10am. The day was still cold, but clear. We caught the tube to South Kensington and then caught the hop on hop off bus.
For the next 2 hrs we sat on the bus taking in all the wonderful sights of London. We ate our sandwiches for lunch while we
were on the bus and then got off near the London eye. We stopped for a coffee in a café on the banks of the Thames and uses their WiFi to see if we could get tickets for the London Eye that day – but nothing was available until the 30th so we booked for then.
We decided to walk from here to St Paul’s and had a lovely walk along the South Bank. Got straight into St Paul's, as with our London Pass we were able to skip the queue waiting to get in – everywhere seems to be very busy at the moment, maybe because of the holiday between Christmas and New Year everyone comes to London. We had a good look around St Paul's – our London Pass gave us free audio guides as well, which was great. We went up to the galleries and outside for a lovely view of London from the outside walkway which runs around the dome.
Decided to get back on the hop on hop off bus after we had finished at St Paul's. It was now 5pm and we had to wait quite a while for the next one, we were starting to worry that we were having a repeat of Paris when we missed the last hop on hop off bus but drivers of some of the other hop on hop off
routes reassured us there was still a bus coming for the route we wanted and by about 5:30 one had arrived. We enjoyed the drive back around London, seeing all the Christmas lights on. Tower Bridge looked beautiful lit up. The bus finished at Grosvenor Rd. We went to a nearby restaurant - the Steak House – for a very nice dinner and then home.
