Oztrekkers do Skiathos

The weather had improved when we woke but still very windy. When we went down to breakfast all the lounger cushions had been brought inside as they'd been blowing everywhere. Most guests had breakfast inside and nobody was getting themselves set up out on the terrace after they finished... apart from us that is! We set up camp in a corner and it was perfectly fine there, and we had the place to ourselves for some considerable time... what a load of wimps...!!!

Cape Kanapitsa, Skiathos

The weather had improved when we woke but still very windy. When we went down to breakfast all the lounger cushions had been brought inside as they'd been blowing everywhere. Most guests had breakfast inside and nobody was getting themselves set up out on the terrace after they finished... apart from us that is! We set up camp in a corner and it was perfectly fine there, and we had the place to ourselves for some considerable time... what a load of wimps...!!!

By the time morning had slipped seamlessly into afternoon

the wind had died right down to barely a breeze and this is when other guests started to make their way down to join us on the terrace.

Elaine enjoyed her lunch of choice over the last few days, a cheese baguette... which actually contained ham as well as cheese, so why isn't it called a cheese and ham baguette - very strange! I again didn't want any lunch as I wasn't in the slightest bit hungry but joined my baby for a nice cooling lemonade. Lunch break over and back on our beds, we've got to make the most of the next couple of hours.

Back up to the room at five o'clock for me to take my second batch of meds and just before six o'clock for Elaine, who took in maximum sunshine on our penultimate day! We've loved

the amazing weather on this holiday but always enjoyed getting back up into our cool room.

We had to return to the Medical Centre this evening for my ear to be checked again and hopefully get a fit to fly certificate. As we were advised early on in the holiday to avoid the buses between five & seven o'clock we didn't leave until just after seven. There were still loads of youngsters fresh off the beaches waiting when we got to the stop. Even more arrived after us, then the first bus just drove straight passed as it was full to bursting, then the next did the same and the next too. What to do, flag down a taxi maybe, not a great idea, so Elaine suggested actually getting on a bus going the opposite way to Koukounaries! As she rightly said, we can just stay on board and effectively be first on the bus for the return ride

into Skiathos. It worked a treat as the bus was heaving by the time we got to our Kanapitsa No 12 original stop, soon we were getting off at stop 3 and heading into the centre. They recognised me as soon as I walked in and was ushered into the examination room straight away. Now it got odd, the young female doctor that I saw yesterday examined me and said I was good to go, then another junior doctor who came in with her also examined me and confirmed I was fit to fly, and then during that the head honcho poked his nose in and also examined me, asked all the questions I'd already been asked and also confirmed that I'd be pleased to know I was indeed fit to fly...!!! Very strange indeed.

So with said fit to fly certificate in hand we made our way into town to find a nice taverna for our last meal of the holiday.

And we soon came across the Portobello Taverna that we'd spotted a few days earlier and were able to get seated outside with no trouble at all. We wanted to get the water taxi back to the hotel tonight, as apparently it all looks lovely at night with the twinkling lights along the shore, and we had plenty of time still for our meal and to get to the quay for 10:30. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and for once we were quite pleased to see a few (very healthy looking) cats wandering around searching for scraps, as well as a very cheeky little mongrel doing the same and managing to evade every effort made by the waiters to shoo him away.

Once finished we still had plenty of time, so Elaine nipped into a jewellers we'd been to before to get a couple of presents while I settled the bill. We got to the quay with some twenty

minutes to spare and were very pleased to find the water taxi there and about to leave well ahead of time, happy with that!

What we were told was right, seeing all the twinkling lights from the boat was beautiful, so a very nice last water taxi journey was much enjoyed. So much so that Elaine suggested that as we hadn't had dessert at the Portobello it might be a nice idea to have something at the Taverna Kanapitsa. Great idea, a very tasty Pannacotta for Elaine and a naughty little Banana Milkshake for me, yeah I hear you, a bit odd but it's what I wanted ok...!!!

After a very slow stroll up that hill to the hotel we did the bulk of our packing before getting our heads down, giving us the maximum sun worshipping time for our last morning!
