... and it was a long night, poor Elaine got very little sleep so will ask the hotel to double their efforts to get us a mattress topper! Down to the pool bar for our first breakfast and we're pleasantly surprised as there is quite a selection of hot and cold goodies to choose from: cereals, fruit & yoghurt, sliced cheese, ham & salami, various breads, croissants, bacon, baked beans, little smoked sausages & omelette, plus fruit juices, tea & coffee!!!
After having our fill we head down to Kanapitsa Beach for
some serious sunbathing and a bit of swimming in the Aegean for Elaine... and boy it's hot, not the slightest hint of a breeze nor a cloud in that azure blue sky. It's nice here, just a single line of sun beds with canopies at the rear of the narrow beach, and only €4 a day to rent them... bargain...!!!
After a hectic morning of rest and relaxation we just had to start thinking about lunch and what to have to eat! An easy choice as to where to go because there's only one place here, the Kanapitsa Cafe-Bar. It was really so nice to get out of the relentless sunshine for a while; decision made, a tasty baguette for Elaine and a lovely mixed seafood salad for me, plus our outrageous drinks of choice at the moment... ice cold Greek lemonade, it's just like our old fashioned cloudy lemonade, hmm hmmm...!!! Lunch break over, nice rest... now
it's back to those melting sun beds...
We decided after a while to escape the oven like conditions of the beach and try out the hotel pool area, in the hope we could find some decent shade to cool down a little. Elaine was straight into the pool and soon morphed into a wildlife conservation superhero when she noticed a Southern Swallowtail Butterfly struggling on the surface of the water and, although a bit afeared of it, managed to scoop it out, but it was so wet it's wings were sticking to the smooth tiles. "Cometh the hour, cometh the man"... with no regard for my own safety, as our superhero's trusty sidekick, I burst onto the scene and managed to pick up the poor butterfly and place it on a bush where it soon dried off in the sun and gratefully carried on with it's endless search for flowers to
feed from... oh how I do love a happy ending...!!!
As the sun dipped lower in the sky we made our way back to our room for a bit of a rest in the coolness of the air con before getting ready for dinner at Johnny's Restaurant & Bar... well we hoped that's where we'd eat as we hadn't made a reservation. We check with reception again regarding availability of a mattress topper, then when we got to our room we noticed that they'd already managed to find one for us, so back up to reception to thank them for their efforts!
It's still very warm as we stroll down the hill to the open air restaurant, and we're in luck as they can fit us in... happy days! And we were lucky too, as not long after we were seated people were being turned away as there were no more tables
available. We can highly recommend this delightful restaurant, lovely covered open air setting with a small bar area and comfy sofas to sit on while waiting to be seated or to enjoy a coffee or cocktail after your meal. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and attentive plus Johnny himself took all the food orders and speedily assisted proceedings throughout the evening. Our meals were excellent, very nicely presented, plentiful and tasty, only minor gripe was the fact that they never seem to want to take an order for desserts, and this does seem standard across the board with Greek restaurants! It didn't dilute our evening in any way though, and to be fair, we weren't in any rush now were we...!!!
It had been a pretty tiring day so as soon as our heads hit our pillows we drifted off into dreamland...
