Aussie Fockie 01/04/2016 - 30/04/2016

Around 6 am in the morning I was awake as I felt something on my legs. I was so scared, I already had a scene in front of my eyes were there was a snake lying on my swag and I could not do anything about it. So I started to move my hand up to my swag around my legs and realised that it was the wind that put the swag against my legs. Ooof I was save:).

Waking up time : 7 am. I felt like I could have used some more sleep, but yeah what else is new:).

First activity of the day was going to a hobby farm with the bus. We saw a lot of animals, such as cows, dogs, goats, horses, donkeys, chickens, pigs, … After that visit we went back to the cattle station where we had a lovely breakfast: Toast, eggs and bacon, njummie!

Next activity was going for a walk to the mountain. Apparently in the area where we stayed, they found gold a long time ago. We got the see some caves where the people stayed while looking for the precious gold. Once they realised that there was no more gold to find, they all abandoned the area and went back to their homes. (Most of them were Asians)

In the afternoon we took the bus to our next stop, the Emu Beach Resort. It was so nice over there. The rooms were perfect, they had double beds, nice pillows, a toilet and shower all to yourself. Well, unfortunately, we only stayed there until the evening…. While checking in for that short period, we found out that the night train of Sydney and the German girl never arrived, so they had to spend the whole night at the train station. That must have been an awful experience to be in. They managed to take the bus in the morning to go to the Emu Beach Resort as well. I thought Sydney would have been pissed off when she arrived at the hostel after having had no sleep at all, but she was so calm, kind of jealous about that attitude. We all sat together at the pool of the resort and relaxed a little bit.

Around 4 pm we went for a walk to see some turtles. I was so excited, I love to see turtles. We were lucky, we got to see a few turtles from up above. The view was extraordinary as well. Locals advise you not to enter the sea as it is known to be full of crocodiles. That doesn’t really give you the feeling to go and jump into the ocean to have some refreshment.

After having had dinner in the hostel, we left at 9 pm to the train station (Rockhampton). As I already told, the trains in Queensland are always late. Normally we had to take the train at 11.37 pm, but the train came at 00.30 am… Everybody was so tired and wanted to have a sleep in the train. The moment I jumped on the train, I noticed it was freezing cold. The airco was on, I think it was maximum 15°C. Try to sleep in those temperatures… We only got a little blanket that just covered the upper side of your body. We were only 5 minutes on the train or the guy sitting next to me started to snore like a pig. The only thing I had in mind was “No, really, this for 7 hours long?!” I put my music as loud as possible, not really good for the ears I know, but I preferred my music than his snoring. Finally managed to get an hour sleep. I always woke up from the cold.
