With Wren leaving, Amanda gone and Nozomi already back in Vancouver I was left to meet 3 new bunkmates.
Sadly this experience didn't turn out as lovely as the first. The first girl I met was loud American- cant remember her name. The second I met was a more quiet American who was actually living in London and was in Paris meeting up with a friend. This friend will be staying in our dorm as well - Justin I think his name was.....uh-huh. I didn't sign up for a mixed dorm.
"Oh its alright, he's really nice." So was Jeffery Dahlmer, when it suited him. But that's not the point. I tried not to dwell on this as I reasoned: these are different people than my other roommates, I can tell just by looking at them that they are here to party. The chances of me actually meeting this....other person are slim, they will more than likely be crawling into their bunks in the middle of the night as they stumble and whisper too loud with beer-soaked breath "I hope we didnt wake her!" No you didnt, for I was never really asleep.
Satisfied with that reasoning I went down to the common room to spend some time with Wren, some one I could count on. There I found her sitting with a Chinese boy/man who turned out to be named Tommy. No, it didnt suit him one bit. Tommy was in financials and insurance and worked in Washington DC- cool- I love The West Wing! Tommy told us about his travels so far- he'd been to Italy where he took some awesome pictures of the Vatican and had his wallet and phone stolen. Amazingly, he still had enough cash to continue on his trip. Using only cash and his computer to communicate he's probably still traveling now. Good for you Tommy.
Others I met were Tommy's roommates- and Indian boy whose name I cant pronounce, that is studying in Germany, and a Greek boy whose name I also cant pronounce and walks around all day with a 5 o'clock shadow no matter how much he shaves....
As well in the common room was a management consultant named Phil. Phil looked like he should have been a page boy in the Third Reich. He works 70-8- hours a week and loves to talk. Initially the boys were talking sports- Tommy showed me some footage of Messi- the Barcelona footballer that dances around the stadium and is an all star- he really is fun to watch! But then I turned the conversation to travel- where you been, where are you going? It really is all about movement. We dont talk about work, because thats not what we're doing now. There we can talk to others with experience, learn what to do, what not to do. Its really quite different from the grind that is normal life but then thats the point isnt it. Thats why I came here.
