I suppose the idea to travel overseas came to be way back in high school. My good friend Tamara Courage was graduating and taking the next HUGE step in her life- she was going to Switzerland to be an opare (nanny). I didn't know where Switzerland was, or had even heard of it of it prior to the Von Trap family escaping there from the Nazi's.
I was amazed that Tamara had the courage (no pun intended) to do such a thing- but she had no doubts, she was fearless.
We kept in touch for over 10 years, mainly writing letters. I would send matching letterhead and envelopes, she would reply on scrap pieces of paper. And in each scrap there would be an invitation for me- come visit. I kept saying I would, eventually.
I'm sad to say that Tamara no longer resides in Switzerland, but is safe in Jehovah's memory, along with countless others. I miss her, especially these days getting ready to leave for the other continent. But I look forward to telling her that I did finally make it Europe, and even better, I look forward to travelling with her and having adventures together in the new world.
So what changed for me? The catalyst would be Rebecca, a darling new friend I met about 4 years ago. Beccs is from the UK and was visiting BC for a spell. A world traveller and a fabulous person, we hit it off immediately. So I made my plans. Becc's and her husband Richard have graciously offered to be my hosts while I'm in Europe.
So, my plans are finalized. I stop in London, head to Paris for about 5 days and then pop over to Barcelona.
Let the adventure begin!!
