My diary

My roommates

My first roommate was Nozomi- a lovely Japanese girl from Vancouver who has been backpacking across Europe for the past 4 weeks. Paris was her last stop before heading back to Vancouver on Friday morning.

I could sense that she is a good egg and so we agree to go get dinner together- the Portugese restaurant down the street is open and has a plat du jour- chicken, rice, salad. As many know I am not a foodie, I eat to live and do enjoy food, but I dont live for it.

Nozomi is a travel tour guide seasonally- this allows her to travel in her off months. With my back ground in Japanese, Kumon, etc, we hit it off. Her travels while backpacking totally fascinate me- shes been to Dublin, Stockholm, Germany, Rome, Portal, Barcelona, Venice, Milan, Florence, London- all over really and with only backpack- I admire that and would someday like to do the same, only over to Australia and New Zealand. (No snickering- I will do this)

The next roommates that came were Wren- a lovely, sometimes forgetful, Chinese girl who also lives in Vancouver. During the course of her stay at 4 hostels she has managed to lose a jacket, an adapter, pajamas, and steal a towel. She's a sweet girl who doesnt take that kind of lose and gain too seriously, its life for her.

The other roommate is Amanda, a hefty girl from Chicago. She was over here visiting her brother who lives in Lyon, thought she would pop over to Paris for a couple of days. She was pretty quiet at first and so we didnt really know much about her until we went on our Paris at Night tour. Honestly, the thing about Amanda that kind of got me was: how was she to fit in our shower? 2 feet by 2 feet- its a shower capsule as one hosteller described it. I had trouble getting in and out of ours because the doors only open half way leaving an odd V for you to enter and exit. I suppose she managed.....

The four of us were quite compatible- as I learned what compatible was when they all left and I met new roommates who were interested in pub crawling, and finding the closest bar to home so they dont have to stumble too far.

PS. The third roommate on the last night was by far the most shocking- though I had booked for an all girl dorm room, this roommate was to be a friend of one of the girls staying there- Cameron? Justin? Whatever, he just wasnt female. This news did irritate me, but I figured it wasnt worth making a stink over as it was only one night, I may not even meet this person if they go out at night anyway. (stop fretting mom, my virtue is intact...)
