When I went to The Louvre for the first time I really did not know what to expect. This is a world famous museum that everyone knows about. However, I somehow had no idea what it was. A lot of the girls were excited to go to The Louvre but to me, at first, I thought we were just going to another museum, nothing special. But I was so wrong. After arriving I quickly realized why it is so famous. It is huge. In my opinion it is impossible to see everything in the museum in one day. It is so full of art and history of so many different styles and eras. Honestly, much what I saw I did not understand because I either did not know the history behind what I was seeing or I did not know enough about certain styles and certain pieces of art to really appreciate it. Nonetheless, I was impressed by everything that I saw.
Of course some of us were eager to see one of the most famous pieces hosted by the Louvre, The Mona Lisa. We were not the only ones with this idea, however. When we got to the room where the painting was hung it was full of people from all over the world pushing through to get a glimpse of this famous piece. So naturally we did the same thing. There were so many people that the workers stood close by keeping watch and there were ropes all around where the painting was so that people would not get too close to it. It wasn't easy and truly I was getting claustrophobic and sweaty, but we were not going to give up until we saw Mona Lisa and got a picture to prove it. Finally we did, and we soon found out it was going to be harder to push to get out of the crowd than it was to get into it. I am glad we did though because it was so great to have an opportunity to see such a famous and impactful piece of art. During this first visit, The Mona Lisa was really the most impressionable thing that I saw. But, the trip to The Louvre was so fun and unforgettable because of the people I went with. We had fun laughing and walking all through the museum and sharing with each other what we knew about certain things and trying to figure out other things together. At one point we decided to recreate some of the art sculptures with our own stances and having that in a photo is such a fun and funny memory.
Later, in November I went back to the Louvre with Paige and Lauren. It was Thanksgiving day and we were all feeling a little homesick and bummed that we were not with family eating a great Thanksgiving feast so we decided to have a fun and one of a kind Thanksgiving day. We started the day making brunch in our apartment and streaming the previous year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Then we got ready and headed out back to The Louvre. This time we got to explore with a little bit more freedom throughout the museum and it was really fun. I think on this day the most impressionable thing that we saw out of everything else was Napolean’s apartment. His apartment was hardly anything like an apartment . It was grand and glamorous and bigger than any mansion we had seen. His dining room table was nothing short of ginormous and we joked about how fun it would be to have a Thanksgiving dinner at a table like that. Later, we went outside to enjoy the museum views from outside. We took some fun pictures in front of what I call the big famous triangle, although I know thats not what its called. It began to rain so we decided to run and find a place to have a makeshift Thanksgiving dinner. We found a fancy restaurant near by that was famous for its French onion soup. So thats exactly what we had; the best French onion soup I have ever had. For missing family and being homesick on a holiday, we sure did end up having a great day around The Louvre.
