The Athenian Life: My Fulbright Experience

Carly and I were interested in doing a day-trip this past weekend to Meteora but once we realized how far Meteora actually is, we decided to head to Lake Vouliagmenis. Lake Vouliagmenis is a 2 hour train & bus ride south from Psychiko and once I shared our plan with Kim, Abby, and Kathryn, they immediately wanted to come.
The temperature was nice this weekend (65 degrees) so we brought our swimsuits and headed to said warm lake. For starters, I must say this lake, while incredibly beautiful, is not warm. There was no way I was getting my whole body wet after dipping my toes in the water! So while Abby, Kim, and Carly jumped in, Kathryn and I sat with our feet dangling in. There were a few Greek lap swimmers in the water but the girls were the only ones laughing and splashing away.
One of the many cool things about the lake is that it is full of the pedicure fish! So while the girls were swimming, Kathryn and I had free fish pedicures :) It was so peaceful and relaxing to get away from the city, embrace the beauty around us, and have fish nibbling

on our feet. After an hour or so, we were all getting hungry so we went to enjoy lunch by the side of the lake. We sat, with the rest of the Greeks who obviously knew the water was too cold to swim in, for quite some time before Meera, the Fulbright Researcher, arrived.
When she arrived, we drifted back towards the lake and stayed with our feet in the water until closing time. (At this point, Abby and Kim had changed and were also sitting by the edge while Car kept on swimming... definitely the brave one in the group! but also had the worst cold at the time).
After leaving the lake, we all hiked up a mountain to get a better view of where we just were. Because the bus was arriving soon, we weren't able to hike further so we also had a few minutes down by the sea. No matter how many times I see the sea, I am always memorized. It had been the most peaceful, enjoyable day and I look forward to going back to the lake for a few more fish pedicures. Plus, I hear that the lake also has some underwater caves, which I would love to adventure to. I just need to figure out if I need a scuba certification first!
