The Athenian Life: My Fulbright Experience

This past weekend, I took a two day trip to Rome. At first, I thought it was going to be a solo trip so I planned to leave Saturday afternoon and return Sunday night. However, once I booked the flight, I let Lauren know and she booked hers as well. Then I found out that Lucy would have already moved to Italy and would be able to meet up with us! It was excellent news; Lucy was able to book our Airbnb for us so that we would all be able to stay together. If you have forgotten in your perhaps old age at the time you are reading this Kels, Lucy studied abroad in Italy with Alicia in Italy. She has visited Chicago a couple of times and I hit it off with her right away. Her second visit to Chicago (in a span of six months, by the way), we realized we'd both be in Europe at the same time and have been planning to meet up ever since. Not only are we meeting up once, though, we are meeting up THREE times. Once in Rome, once next month in Naples, and once when she comes to Greece! Anyway, I was so happy I was able to see her this past weekend and catch up.

Rome, Italy

Kathryn ended up buying a ticket two weeks before the trip and joining us. We didn't see much of her though since the three of us had

already been to Rome and it was her first time so she was trying to squeeze everything in. We met up with Kathryn Saturday night to see the Trevi Fountain and grabbed dinner at Campo de Fiori. After dinner, Lucy and I stayed at Campo de Fiori to grab a few drinks (happened to be Strawberry Daquiris, yum!) at one of the bars. We sat next to a really sweet gay couple in their 30s and spent the rest of the evening chatting with them. We even found each other on Facebook... hopefully they'll upload the picture of us together soon!
Sunday was spent just the three of us girls while Kathryn went off alone. On Sunday, we walked to the Spanish Steps and stopped by George's favorite cafe in Rome, Caffe Grecco. Caffe Grecco ended up being a little pricey so we wandered to a side street, picked a cafe, and sat down. Initially, we were thinking of just having coffee but once we sat down, we were getting hungry so I ate my third pasta dish of the trip. And yes, I ate four pasta dishes because really,

what is Rome without pasta? Plus, I have a crazy addiction to pasta (notice the pictures of my pasta dishes.) After we spent two hours at the cafe, we headed down the expensive shopping street until we spotted H & M on a side street. Lauren had been dying to go in so we did but then Lauren was the only one who left without anything!
After our shopping trip, we headed to the Colosseum and went inside. Lucy had never been inside so it was nice to show her around before heading to the Pantheon. I had never been inside the Pantheon and I was so happy I was able to see it this time! It has a beautiful dome that we took a selfie under :) After that, we grabbed our last pasta dish, our first cannoli of the trip, and headed back towards the airport. What a short yet memorable trip!
