With nothing on our shoulders but our backpacks, lightly stuffed with the barest necessities, without which one would not survive in the wilderness, such as nine handkerchiefs ("Kleenex you don't throw
away"), half a bottle of Everyday Seasoning ("with grinder"), two P-51 military surplus can openers, and a kilogram of raw liquid tahini, we parted from our safely-stored possessions and set out to circumnavigate the globe in many more days than Fogg and Passepartout. A shuttle and a kiss later, we boarded plane after plane after plane, hopping from San Francisco (SFO) to Los Angeles (LAX) to Dublin (DUB) to Addis Ababa (ADD) and ending thirty-three hours later in Windhoek (WDH), the capital of Namibia.
Well, perhaps more than one kiss.
