01 Introduction

In an optometrists far far away (well it is when you live in West Auckland) it is a period of Ray's distraction. Land Rovers, from other off-road clubs, from other NZ bases, have been enjoying their endless trips on enviable off road tracks in a place of great reputed beauty. During those sessions, shared to Ray's Facebook page, he has managed to convince someone else to commit to an epic 3 week journey (even though they didn't actually do the trip) thus - the ultimate weapon, the EXCUSE needed to convince Yvonne that she should pack up the family and embark on a trip around the South Island in the trusty Defender - with the handwash on the back of it.

Pursued by Ray's endless pleadings, Yvonne races to the other end of the house, custodian of the handwash that can save her people and restore freedom to family dinners…

Ray had a plan and that was to drive down the West Coast of the South Island, hook up with other Land Rover clubs - go on some epic off road tracks and then drive back up the East Coast. He didn't let the Kaikoura Earthquakes stop him and by June 1st, 2016 he had attracted a mis-fit crowd of other Land Rover families to join him for the Christmas holidays.
