Day 7. Today was another driving day - headed for Wanaka. Excitement ensued when we saw a hapless group of tourists who had managed to drive off a perfectly good, straight road into a muddy knoll - in what appeared to be near-perfect driving conditions.

Not one to pass on utilising his winch, Steve pulled over and appraised the situation. With Tim at the wheel, the LROCA Mainland

Tour Rescue Department liberated the rental vehicle from the mud.

I documented all of the action - heartened to witness the polite round of applause that Steve and Tim received from the grateful recipients of the rescue. Steve rather prophetically announced: "That'll be the only time I use the winch this whole trip." Excitement over, we proceeded to Wanaka and the Boundry Creek DOC Camp.

Lake Wanaka is absolutely breath taking - and it couldn't have been more calm and beautiful.

Once we all made camp, we followed the kids down to the shores of the lake and fished, almost made fire and admired the view (and the lake wasn't bad either Rocky!)

Back at camp, Scarly's new bunny hat kept everyone entertained.

Tomorrow was our break into Central Otago and after a long day of driving, LR1 was dreaming of off-road tracks untried, LR10 of Queenstown and all it had to offer (people their own age!!!!) and LR3 & LR4 - their spiritual homeland - Pinot Noir country!
