Day 5. New Year's Eve and Big River Mine was on the agenda. On reviewing Leon Jnr's diary (not to be mixed up with Leon Snr's diary - which he doesn't know I've read) I was struck by the insight of an almost 10 year old: "Not much has happened in the last couple of days - it's sort of drive, set up camp and sleep. Today we went to Big River. It wasn't that big to be honest."

The Big River Mine was impressive, in so much as I'm at a loss as to how they would've got all of that heavy mining equipment through the bush. Realistically, if I'd taken the time to read the informative panels

08 Big River

Day 5. New Year's Eve and Big River Mine was on the agenda. The Big River Mine was impressive, in so much as I'm at a loss as to how they would've got all of that heavy mining equipment through the bush. Realistically, if I'd taken the time to read the informative panels

at the mine I'd know how.

We headed back for our last night at Waiuta and were looking forward to seeing the new year in with our Land Rover family. And the butterfly lamb leg. And red wine. And fire. And Marshmallows.

Before we hit camp, LR4 decided to stop in at the Blackwater School House. I took a series of portraits of my family and asked them to pretend they were on "Little House On The Prairie". As you can see the learning material was tricky and they all had to concentrate.
