USA 2017

At 05:03 I was woken by Jo with the question 'Are you awake?'. 'Of course I'm bloody awake because you've just woken me up'. 'Now leave me alone' I thought. I said 'Yes, dear'. 15 minutes later we were off to watch the sun come up in the National Park. I took pictures of trees and flowers so I was happy! Now over to guest writer - Isabel.

Once mum and dad had returned from their adventures, we headed across the road to a Mexican restaurant. After telling the waitress that Ella was in fact 12 (she had slid down her chair a bit) we eagerly tucked into the all you could eat buffet. Although the food was lovely we were first greeted at the restaurant by a rather questionable smell, to which dad even suggested that we leave and instead go to McDonalds (which sadly didn't happen).

After making a quick detour to the wrong airport, we finally made it to our first activity of the day - the helicopter ride over the Canyon! After being given our safety briefing, we took no time in getting onto the helicopter. Due to the pilot trying to balance the aircraft, both mum, dad and one half of a French couple were in the back, while Ella, I, the pilot, and the other French person were up front - much to mum's dismay as neither Ella nor I had our cameras, which led to her regularly passing hers forward. The helicopter ride was very smooth and there were loud gasps as we flew over the edge of the canyon. Matched only when told we were around 6000ft above the Canyon floor, luckily no one was scared of heights. Mum described this as her best ever tourist trip and it was hard to argue with. 45 minutes of amazing fun!

Shortly after, we headed back to the National Park. Mum went off for a walk (still not back at time of writing), while Ella, Dad and I went for a bike ride. It has been around 4 years since I last rode a bike. Luckily, although the map said it would take 2.5 hours, we made it in under 2 and that was with a detour. I was very impressed with myself and rewarded myself with a hot bath (which she is now enjoying and fully deserved!). Thank you Isabel.

An avid reader has pointed out that Montazuma castle was built to avoid flooding - so there you have it!

Top tip - quiet day!
