USA 2017

Today we took on Angel's Landing - 1,485ft change in elevation. 5 mile route. Scary! Here's the official description - The first section is fairly level as it follows the river and then crosses the canyon bottom. Switchbacks allow the trail to climb the canyon wall, up to Refrigerator Canyon. The trail then climbs another series of switchbacks, called Walter's Wiggles. These 21 switchbacks are very tight and you gain elevation rapidly, but this section is short and not oppressive. The Wiggles put you on top of the ridge, at Scout Lookout, where views are amazing. For the final 1/2 mile, the trail follows the ridge across a saddle and up the hogs back. This is where things get interesting, steep, where you are grateful for the chains to hold onto.

Most people know that i am not a fan of hikes but i found out another thing i dont like today, heights. The fact that when you looked off the mountain edge there was just a shear drop made me not want to go any further. The hike was long and tiring but the fact that i had to wait for the rest of my family to catch up, bored me so i told them that they had to "pick up the pace". Dad and i went off and waited at the start of the trail for izzy and mum. After clinging on for dear life we made it past the tricky bit, looking up i could see people walking up the steep mountain to Angel's Landing. Mine and izzy's first word when dad said 'so? ' was ' no'. The parents went up as izzy and i waited and i did my favourite thing... people watch.
