The overall feeling I received from Rome, Italy is the feeling of adventure and awe. Walking around Rome was like walking around a living and breathing museum. Knowing that I was walking close to architecture that is older than most countries was really cool. It was also weird to think that under my feet was probably a building that was just buried or destroyed over the years for various reasons. What was also interesting was how the Italians interacted with the city. Most just went on with there day, either selling souvenirs or just walking home or to work. Another weird thing to see was how ancient and modern day views clash. One of the areas that was interesting was around the Largo Argentina. The area was where Julius Caesar was “allegedly” stabbed to death. It’s amazing to see the area that changed Rome into what it is today and then find out that it is now a sanctuary for cats. The area is also surrounded by restaurants, shops selling modern day assortments, trolleys, buses, and even performances from tap dancing to chalk art. Another one of the areas was in front of the St. Peter’s Basilica, the St. Peter’s Square. In the basilica’s square, the beautiful sculptures by Bernini made several decades ago surrounding the square. Then when you walk outside of the square, you see coffee shops, souvenir shops, cash exchanges, and people walking around trying to scam you outside the cash exchanges. Overall, the interactions I saw and had in Italy were amazing.
