Did you know that Fridays occur once every week? That means that I'm going to have 10 Fridays in Germany. So many! Fridays. Very cool concept there.
If you can't tell, I am tired and a little out of it, so forgive my rambling. We had a REALLY long class today, wow. Instead of going to my internship on Friday, we have class. The day starts with German, and then there's an internship seminar from 10:30-4:00. Thank goodness the internship seminar is only every other week. I don't know how many more of these super long class days I can handle.
Yes, I know I sat in class for just as long in high school. But I am so done with high school gosh darn it! Classes in college are usually 50-90 minutes. My attention span is not as long as it once was ;)
Anyway, internship seminar. We basically talk about internships in another culture. Today was all about the "benefits and drawbacks of multi-cultural teams". In which half the class wasn't paying attention and we had to reiterate the concepts over and over again. I miss my math and science classes where we have formulas and challenging problems :( I wouldn't have enrolled in this course if it wasn't required for the program. Not planning on getting much out of it, honestly.
We do have to write a weekly journal entry. Even though it's supposed to be about cultural differences we notice in the workplace, I've been submitting what I right here. Super convient, right? Killing two birds with one stone and all that. (Except please don't kill birds with stones that just sounds like a bad idea).
Mildly-annoyed ramblings aside, tonight was a very special night. (No, I did not have illegal choclate). Finally, after four years of waiting, I was able to eat a German fast-food staple: Döner Kebab.
If you haven't tried one yet, get on a plane right now and fly to Germany. I'm serious. These, Currywurst, Käsespätzle, and German hard rolls are the only foods you need in life to be happy. The Döner Kebabs are Turkish in origin, but very much "German-ized" here. Think lamb (sometimes other meats are used too) sliced off a massive hunk of meat cooking on a vertical rotisseire. Seasoned with yogurt sauce and tangy spices, the lamb is thin and savory. Top it with a salad of red cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, and an assortment of other veggies. Wrap that all up in pita bread and take it to go. So, um, basically a portable slice of heaven right there!
I have only found Döner at one Turkish resturant in America (The Flying Carpet in Fort Worth), and there it was served as a fancy plate with a side salad. It was deliciuos of course, but there's something about throwing it hastily together in bread and dumping yogurt sauce all over it that you just can't get at a sit-down resturant.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, this country's food is perfect, and I guess I probably won't be coming home now. :) (Until I start to miss Kraft Mac and Cheese too much... Which is a definite possibility!!)
Once we (Christine, Victoria, and I) finished eating, the skies opened up and it poured. We were about two blocks away from our apartment, and completely unprepared. The forecast hadn't predicted rain. Christine and I had entirely too much fun. With nowhere to go, it didn't matter if our clothes and hair were soaked. We literally ran through the rain laughing and skipping and spinning. I don't know if it was Döner-inspired joy, but I felt so happy to just be out in the rain. It wasn't cold at all - actually a very nice change from the super hot weather. When we got to the apartment, a couple of other girls had come down just to stand in the rain. I guess we were all excited to have something other than the scorching sun.
Of course, we'd left the windows open, so there was a nice little indoor pool waiting for us when we got back!! Nothing my extra pair of towels couldn't solve. (Always be prepared and pack all the things). I think the rain really helped lift our spirts after the long day. I almost feel prepared to face the all-day German class tomorrow. ;)
