The sculpture of Moses is a wonderful cultural landscape representing the Biblical influence and religion structure of Rome. This sculpture was one of Michelangelo’s most famous pieces; he combined a lifespan of over 80 years into a beautifully sculptured piece that shares the story of Moses’ life. His mouth is closed shut; it almost looks as though it was sown shut. This signifies his speaking impediment and how he did not think he was eligible to lead the chosen people, but God chose to use him even in his weaknesses. Moses’ hand is carefully grasping a plate which signifies the 10 commandments; the positioning of his hands reveal that these were not his commandments, they were commandments instilled upon him from God. Although Moses’ face looks older, his muscles are strong

and defined depicting the Moses did not act on his own strength, but strength bestowed upon him by God. He is clothed in a robe signifying that he was a regular person who interacted with people- he was not a god, he was not an emperor, he was not a solder, and he was a civilian chosen by God to lead His people. The horns on his head signify the ram he wrestled with and the burning bush that Moses saw. This cultural landscape reminds Romans that when God is on your all- all things are possible.
