Africa 2018

As we had our last breakfast sitting outside at our hotel in Victoria Falls, the sound of the falls did sound like constant thunder. The wind was a little stronger this AM and at one point the mist was carried all the way to our table.

When you go to visit an area, especially one that is a tourist attraction, you can look up pictures on the web. However, the people, landscape, transportation, food, shops, even the signage on the roads, are what you have to see first hand to truly experience it.

Today was the second of our internal flights, heading back to Johannesburg. We accidentally discovered the best use of spending $5 at the airport. When we arrived at the airport there seems to be someone who puts our bag in a luggage cart before we can even get out of the transport vehicle. As we looked at the long lines for economy class check-in, this person seemed to know how to navigate the check-in process and we were immediately taken to the first class or business class desk and on our way to the gate within minutes. Hurray for free enterprise and a $5 tip!

Getting through immigration out of Zimbabwe was a lot quicker than entering. The flight again was jam-packed with mostly tourists. Surprisingly, on an 80-minute flight, they gave us a hot lunch including free beer or wine.

We headed back to The Residence Hotel again but unfortunately didn’t have any time for a ride in that Rolls Royce. We did have a chance though to use the spa, sauna, pool and hot tub. We found out during this stay that the hotel is the only one in an area called Houghton Estates. It is where Nelson Mandela lived until he passed. It is home to many government officials and wealthy business owners.
