Grandma & Koro’s (2nd) Great Adventure

The squat toilet is common in Eastern countries such as Turkey, China, India and Japan.

The toilet is mounted level with the floor. To use it, you have to squat right down (without falling over!), lining your bottom up with the hole in the floor. Perhaps this is the reason why yoga is popular in these countries, because you need to be quite limber. Not a comfortable position to read the newspaper for ten minutes either.

When you are finished it flushes just like the toilets we use.

Grandma outright refuses to use one of these contraptions, she just holds on until the next bathroom.
