Laters London - MC and JD's adventure back to NZ

Today we are partaking in one of America’s greatest Sunday rituals, American Football! We are going to watch the New York Jets vs the Miami Dolphins.

The stadium is situated across the river in New Jersey. We gave ourselves what we thought was plenty of time to get there and left at 10.30am. After getting to Penn Station we were left hanging out for 40 minutes waiting for a train with a lot of Jets fans. There was then four trains in five minutes, which was random. We had to change at Seacaucus in New Jersey and wait again for the train to go before lining up for security at the stadium. It took us three hours to get from home to our seats and that meant we missed the start. Fun fact ... you can be asked for id to buy alcohol if you look under 40! Beer in hand and finally in our seats we set to work sussing out how this game works!

American Football is a very stop start sport, but it is extremely exciting. In the breaks there is so much going on with cheerleaders, fireworks and giveaways. Al and Craig turned up at halftime, but were a bit hungover and left 15 minutes later. Guess it’s not for everyone, especially on a hot day.....

Unfortunately the Jets didn’t come out on top today and even though many people left early getting home was as much as a faff as getting to the stadium. Took us two hours to get back to Penn Station. NJ Transit really is terrible. We decided to go for a walk around Manhattan seeing the Rockefeller Centre, Trump Tower, and some of Central Park. A great way to kill a few hours. The night was a bit longer than planned as our train decided to change and we were rerouted. After some help from a local who could tell we were lost,

we finally made it home and collapsed into bed. Big city life is tiring!
