Laters London - MC and JD's adventure back to NZ

Easy start today. Bagels and a trip to Tim Hortons to get the day started right.
Justin’s dad is in town so Kendell and Justin had breakfast with him. Afterwards Kendell came and met us and we made a plan for the day. As it was a beautiful day we decided on a walk through High Park and then down to the Distillery District for a look around.

High Park is walkable from where we are staying so we wandered down and around the massive, and hilly, park which stretches right to the lakefront. Highlights were seeing poison ivy , the lake with Canadian geese and the free zoo run by volunteers which houses sheep, capabaras and bison. After getting our animal fix, including all of the squirrels, we headed to the metro and down to Distillery District.

The Distillery District used to be a huge whiskey distillery. It is now a pedestrian only zone and is designated a national historic site. It’s a great place to walk around full of old style buildings and cobbled streets which are now home to art shops, cafes, and tap houses. It is also a favourite for weddings and we saw four different wedding parties in the hour or so we were here. It may have something to do with the old school charm and all of the art installations around the place. Would highly recommend if you’re in Toronto. To add to the attraction, it's also close to a well named park, David Crombie Park.

Back on the streetcar, what Canadians call trams, we headed back to Liberty Village to meet up with Justin and his dad before they went to a Canadian football game. On the way there we passed the ground where the Toronto Wolfpack were playing. The Wolfpack is a rugby league team that plays in the second tier of the English Super League competition, but they are pushing for promotion. Not sure if they won, but there were a lot of drunk Australians so it must have been a good day.

The restaurant Justin chose to meet at seemed to be the headquarters for the away team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the whole place was clothed in green. Pretty cool when you realise it is about a four hour flight to get to Toronto! Made for a great atmosphere over dinner, while wondering where all the Toronto Argonauts fans were.

After dinner we headed to an Irish pub across the road for a few more beers to toast our time in Canada and reflect on how many great musicians have come out of the country. Very sad to leave this place, it’s been a great few days, but way too short. We are already starting to plan our next trip to Canada......
