“Bonus” night in NYC

Travel day today! We are heading to Toronto in Canada.

We planned a chilled morning before our mid afternoon flight out of LaGuardia. After a run past some murals of local celeb Notorious BIG, we packed up our things and headed for a feed at Manny’s because it was so good the first time. We started out the back, but it started drizzling while we were eating, so we had to move inside.

Now Hurricane Florence has been wreaking havoc in the Carolina’s for the last few days. President Trump even described it as the wettest hurricane on record......whatever that means. We had been unaffected, until today when we got the tail of it with some thunder storms. I have never seen rain like it, the whole street was under water. After it calmed down we made a dash to pick up our bags, and headed to the airport.

After pretty much swimming to the airport in the uber, seriously the water was up the bottom of the doors in places, we made it to the airport. Only to find our

flight had been delayed. No real surprises there. There was a surprise when our flight got cancelled an hour later however. Meanwhile it was blue skies and 30 degrees in Toronto...

We lined up with all of the other affected passengers and waited to see what was happening. After two hours in the line we were told there were no more flights today, we had a flight at 6.30 the following morning and Air Canada wouldn’t be paying for anything because it was weather related.....what a farce. They could have made a bulk announcement and saved us all two hours!

After getting our bags and finding a wildly overpriced Ibis Airport Hotel for the night, we had a few beers and watched some Jeopardy and baseball at the hotel. Randomly we met a guy from the Coromandal who was travelling with his daughter and had a big yarn. A bit of a relief after a not so great afternoon. Thank you (in anticipation) travel insurance!
