Croatia (Hrvatska)

After our sumptuous breakfast at the Belleview we took the 8 am Orbec ferry to Korcula.
We walked the fortress city and lunched there. We had a grand time.

We then drove to the small, small village of Blazero and visited, by special invitation, a little oyster farm run by a young couple who invited us to see and try their oysters. Yes, Steve ate not one, not two, but three oysters -raw and minutes from the sea! (Photos next page)

That evening Roman drove us to the top of Mt. Srd overlooking Old Town Dubrovnik. We took sunset pictures and discussed the history of the terrible battles surrounding this area of the world.

In 1991 Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia and war raged all the way south to Dubrovnik. At 6:00 a.m. on October 1 the sleepy town of Dubrovnik awoke to explosions shot from Mt. Srd directly down into their town. Many in a brave assault, lost their lives climbing the hill by night to meet the soldiers face to face. The people of Dubrovnik continued to resist. Eight months later Dubrovnik was liberated by the Croatian army. This battle is still fresh in everyone's minds today. Maps and photographs around town display the before and after pictures.
