A few miles from the Bosnian border and 2 hours from Zagreb

Wow Plitvice, Croatia's first national park! What an adventure and what amazing waterfalls. As we arrived in the early morning we were delighted that the rain had stopped and it was truly a lovely morning. We had our lunch packed and cameras were ready.
There are 16 lakes divided into the Upper Lakes (Gronja Jezera) Entrance 2, and the Lower Lakes (Donja Jezera) Entrance 1. We started at Entrance 1 so that we would have the view of walking up to the waterfalls not down from the

waterfalls.
Winding wooden pathways wound their way through the waterfalls and streams. Everywhere we looked there was water and the roaring of waterfalls.
The water was clear turquoise and the protected trout swam boldly throughout the waterways. What a treat, and what a full day!
We got back in our little red Volkswagen and headed from this inland area to the coastal town called Zadar.
It was a lovely drive on wide open freeways filled with signs that we tried hard to interpret very quickly! (Some are on the next page - see how you do!)

We checked into our next Airbnb. It was a lovely, upstairs, modern flat that overlooked the walled town of Zadar. It was a great location and a very simple walk across the bridge to town!
As we toured the town, we passed the church of St. Donatus which is located at the northeastern edge of the Roman forum. Donatus began building the church in the 9th century. Restoration of the area is in progress. (Photo on the right center) For dinner we dined at a fantastic vegan restaurant called Art of the Raw! The bread was 'baked' in a dehydrator (aka crackers) Steve had a tostada and I had spring rolls with peanut butter cashew cream ...yum.
