Croatia (Hrvatska)

We were up early and headed out for our next stop - the town of Split. Split is another fortress town but we found it not quite as quaint as Sibinek. Split now has 178,000 people and you can feel the bustle of city life.
Split does have Diocletian's palace which he built for himself as a retirement home. He was an emperor who tortured Christians here on the Dalmatian coast. Today there is a remembrance fountain in the main square for them. The palace is massive and a bustling town is now built within its walls. 2,000 people currently live or work there. There is quite a maze of narrow alley homes, stores and restaurants. (right center)
After walking the town, we drove on to our destination for the night, a small town or hamlet outside of Ston called Hodilje. (Top and bottom right)
On our way we stopped at one of the many fruit stands on the side of the road. We enjoyed the wide open countryside with scattered little villages and dramatic skies blessed with perfect weather.
We passed a town by the Neretva River and saw a rowing contest!
