Wednesday morning we headed out for a week in Newport. We took a pleasant two and a half hour drive through Massachusetts. Our condo was a cozy 2 bedroom unit on the Perry Miller Wharf. We had a humongous Yacht berthed on the kitchen side of the condo and a marina full of smaller boats on the living room side. Beautiful views! We unpacked, had dinner at Applebees in Middletown, found a grocery store and stocked up on essentials, came back to our condo and sacked out in our wonderful king size bed.
Our condo was surrounded by water and the water was covered by boats. They were in the midst of their annual "Boat Show" week.

The picture on the opposite page was taken from our condo balcony. As you can see we were smack-dab in the middle of Newport's Marina. The top left photo is of our resort taken from a couple of wharves away. The top right photo is from our balcony of the sunset. The bottom left is the home of a Jim Boone, built in 1758. There were a lot of these homes in Newport, many with plaques on them of when their were built and who the first occupants were. The bottom right photo is of the newest "Tall Ship". That is what they call these ships with the very tall masts. When it first sailed into the harbor for the boat show, I thought it was a replica of some famous old sailing ship. But it turns out that there is a least one shipbuilder who apparently specializes in building these "modern day" tall ships. Very cool. I'd much rather have one of those than a big old yacht.
