Rome has long been one of the most well-known and successful cities in the world. Its history goes all the way back to ancient times. It has been the place of so many historical events that have shaped the future. There is a certain Roman mindset that started in ancient times when Rome truly was the greatest city in the world. That mindset was of power, extravagance, and strength. The mindset said that Rome was the best in every way, and always would be. But I would like to point out that despite this perception, it is not always true. Rome had its moments of weakness, its conflicts and controversies. While the Roman ideals may have been upheld, it often was untrue or got in their way of success. The city of Rome could not sustain this mindset all of the time, and my artifacts show how this was the case. My journal holds a variety of artifacts, but I believe this idea is best shown in the art and architecture of the time. Art is many times the most truthful form of a society, and I think that it reveals many aspects of Rome’s weakness.
