Day 13
Our day starts off with a cloudy sky and wispy rain - We walk down to Queenstown for an early coffee and some recognisance for some holiday fun later checking out the gondola to the top of the mountain that shadows the town. But our main attention today - We are golfing at the impressive venue of Millbrook Golf club at Arrowtown which has just finished hosting the NZ Open.
With a mid morning stroll through the old Arrowtown with its narrow Main Street and rustic shopfronts from a time gone by we have a light breakfast head down the road to our days activity. And not to
disappoint the course is looking resplendent and in tip top condition.
Our format for the day is Ambrose which is a teams game we’re everyone tees off and we pick the best drive the others pick up and we play from the one spot and repeat on all shots, so shooting low is our aim. Our team consist of Ross, Joss, Kim and myself with Melissa the official photographer, the golfers are carting and our photographer will be walking the course.
With a long straight drive down the first from Ross we are away enjoying the amazing mountain views and the beautiful layout of Millbrook, with a string of pars we finally make birdie on the 7th with Kim holing a screamer of a putt and we add another on the eight and at the turn we are two under, with everyone contributing good shots along the way, on the back nine we play solid golf with a late barrage of birdies one on the 16th we’re Joss makes a great chip and follows up with the birdie putt and we are 3 under, a good drive down 17 sees us 60m from the green a difficult pin placement and we all come up
slightly short just off the green and with skill and determination Ross holes the putt for us to get to 4 under, with last hole a short par 3 we miss the green and manage a good up and down for par and sign for 4 under 68 a good day had by all. Special mention to Melissa for the great photos and the huge walking effort in covering the whole 18 holes.
Back at our digs we enjoy a pre dinner red wine retelling our golf tales before the short walk to town for dinner at The Pig and Wistle - with our orders done and a game of 8 ball won and lost our meals arrive with mixed reaction as the pork roast is light on and a minor stoush breaks out between Ross the chef and manager with a slight bitter experience on what was a super day - with an ice cream on the way home in the drizzling rain another big day in NZ as our travels continue.
