Day 7 With a beautiful start to the day with a clear sky and superb sunrise we play local today.
Our digs are perched in the hills around Nelson with a view north to the ocean and hills and mountains around us, quite stunning and serine, Kim and Denise have a lovely home and it is great to catch up.
Melissa and Denise’s venture for the day are local sightseeing in
Nelson and perusing the local city centre, I play some golf with Kim at Nelson Golf Club which is perfectly placed on the coast, a links style course next to the airport and magnificent water and mountain views - my golf is respectable with a missed timed push over the fence and down the runway causing a slight flight delay no real harm done and a misbehaving putter the only draw backs, The planes were that close people were waving from their seats -
The girls meet us at the end of our round at the 19th hole for a beverage looking over this beautiful layout.
We all head out for a very nice Indian meal as we reminisce and compare Indian Restaurants, Melissa opted for the Mali Kofta as usual and Kim and I share the non vegetarian platter. When Kim and Denise were living on the Gold Coast we would often catch up for a meal at our local Indian restaurant on a Monday night. With a full day in Nelson done it was onto day 8 and it’s a full on adventure, with another beautiful sunrise and clear skies a great day beckons - we
have breakfast in the town centre with Melissa, Kim and Denise taking a mega walk up to the lookout and I stay in town as my foot is sore and not up to a long hike. I visit the local museum and then head to the local Harvey Norman store and chat with some staff and compare stores and realise that furniture is very expensive in NZ.
With the Trio picking me up after there fabulous walk, we head west to The Abel Tasman National Park a drive about an hour or so along the waterfront with the looming mountain range next to us and the views spectacular, we arrive at Kaiteriteri just in time to board the ferry for our three and a half hour cruise. Well what a stunning and most beautiful place, with golden beaches and rising mountains we peruse the bays along the coast stopping off at The Split Apple a large round granite rock split down the middle and just laying on top of rocks in the water we are amazed at the size and symmetry - legend has it ( on good geological advice) that the rock had a seam of quartz running through the middle and in the ice event millions of
years ago the quartz was to freeze expand and crack open - Quite a site and is known as one of the eight wonders of rock compositions in the world.
We venture further west along the coast traverse the bays and inlets such a beautiful boating Mecca with its protective bays and sublime views, we cruise around an island and spot a Mother seal and her pup sunning them selves on the rocks and as we cruise further and eventually turn back towards our starting point the views to the east and the ranges and Nelson in the distance are truely amazing, we also cruise to the Tongan Caves a rock formation carved out of the ocean quite impressive.
With the ferry arriving back we take the slow road back home following the coast and stopping off at a couple of spots to take in the fabulous sites.
We opt for fish and chips tonight and have them on the balcony as the sun sets over the hills a very spectacular day is had by all.
